Philippians 2:3 Devotional

August 23, 2019

"Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don't look only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had." Philippians 2:3-5

We are slowly moving through Philippians 2 and still focusing on being a unified community of believers.

When studying Luke together before Easter, we kept coming back to Jesus' opposite values from the world. The world says to strive, to get ahead, to think of yourself while Jesus preached and modelled humbly laying one's own interests aside for others, giving others the places of honor, generously giving without expecting repayment or praise.

Without the Holy Spirit working within us, living like Him is impossible. It's just us trying hard and falling short. Today, let's lean hard into Him and ask him to mold us into his likeness. Then our communities will find more unity, compassion and love.

Lord Jesus, we lift our hearts to you today. Mold us, transform us to be more like you. Hlep us to humble ourselves as you did and seek out the intersests of others with your Spirit mightingly working in us.

Now that is something I need way more than the strength to cliff dive or stick a landing, the strength to BE CONTENT no matter what.

In the moments I really stop and take my struggles to the Lord and lift my heart and mind to Him and who He is...then for more than a moment I feel the peace wash over me, reassure me that it will all be okay, that He's bigger than my pile of dishes and my lack of momentum. He will sustain me through the day. Practicing his presence as many moments as I can is the goal (I am not so good at it lately), but that is where peace resides, in constant conversation with Jesus.

Rejoice in the Lord. Feel calm and yielding in his close presence. Lay down our anxieties in conversation with him. Thank him. And His peace will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
