Every good and perfect gift is from above. James 1:17
My study question for today: What crises or issues did the writer face?
I wonder if those who were struggling under the oppression of the rich and powerful believed that the trials and temptations before them came from the hand of God. Did they think they were being punished and drug through the dirt of life at God’s doing? Here, James refutes that thinking. God does not tempt nor can he tempt others. In contrast, every good and perfect gift is from the Lord our God, who is not fickle. His greatest gift is to give us new life through the Word of truth. Ironically, we can experience these good gifts even in the middle of our struggles.
O Lord, I thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. We can count on you to remain the same, to love us, to treasure us, to fill us with your Spirit, even when we are in the dumps of life. Open our eyes today to see all the gifts you shower upon us.
How did these verses about temptation and good gifts impact you today?
